Their friendship causes Haru, the maid of that household suspicious of something going on beneath the floorboards.
When Haru discovers the clock family’s residence under their floorboards, Arrietty’s family is endangered as they are compelled to vacate the premises and their beloved residence, then and there. The discovery of a girl as one of the four-inch tall members of the clock family brings disaster into their life that now tumbles in the hands of Sadako, her maid and Sho. Arrietty’s one wrong step that leads to their discovery invites sheer calamity for the Clock family, who at present are left to the mercy of Sadako, her maid and Sho.
